Aternos Review
Free Minecraft hosting that works for casual play but comes with real performance trade-offs.

Aternos occupies a unique space as a completely free Minecraft server host. The 2.5 rating is misleading in context - many negative reviews come from users expecting paid-tier performance at zero cost. Defenders point out that the service provides solid RAM, an easy interface, and mod support for free. The real limitations are auto-shutdown when no players are online, occasional lag spikes, limited storage (4GB), and queue waits during peak times. There is no real customer support to speak of. Best for casual friend groups who want to try server hosting without spending anything, and who can tolerate the inherent trade-offs of a free service.

Completely free hosting

They are literaly giving free Server and some Guys hatte it 😭✌️
Improve just a bit.
Aternos is decent, 2.5gb of ram is a lot compared to stuff like minehut that have 1 or 1.7, but the only thing I really do not like is the 4gb storage limit is awful, and I can't downgrade versions without getting owning my worlds/plugins still. Also "Free for everyone" is freaking fake. The CPU seems to be made for windows 98 and my server will crash from other people's servers. Also, the ping is as unstable. I know I am in US but some European players complain about small spikes. Also, compatibility with Mac is absolute garbage. Constant -59, -60, and -61 errors that are endless. Aternos, if you see this, fix this please. Also, server.properties is VERY VERY VERY limited, and it's replaced with an aternos GUI screen that has almost no toggles, making it less customizable. Also, many things that I cannot disable for "safety" is player stats? How the hell is that for safety? I just don't need player stats (in spigot.yml or smth).
An Okay Free Server Host
For a free server hosting experience, I would say it runs well enough! Only used them for a very short while, but it was an okay experience.
It's literally free everyone?! And it works!
Just try out the service to see if you will like the performance or not, but for me its been very decent playing Hytale and having tried Minecraft on it. Of course you got the lags and hiccups but what do you expect with 3GB of ram and free hardware they provide for just signing up?Use it if its useful to you, pay up elsewhere if not. Simple as that.
Easy to Use and Navigate
Very easy to use, even for a dumbass like me. All the login was incredibly simple and the interface was very easy to navigate.
Verdict
Not Recommended
For players who cannot spend money on hosting, Aternos delivers a functional free experience. The low rating largely reflects unrealistic expectations - it performs well for what it is, though paid hosts will always outperform it.
